Mid 1990's Work Experience Rejections
Summer 1994 and I'm going to be on the radio, and that's the end of it, oh and get paid for it. I believed I had the personality for it and that nobody should talk me out of it. Bold and almost arrogant, but there it is.
First, I have to get IN, which as we all know, isn't easy.
No computers back then. A pen, a writing pad, addresses from some library book, envelopes & stamps and dozens of letters fired off to stations around the country, even the nationals, what's to lose ? No station situated even in the remotest parts of the country was safe from my campaign.
"Dear Sir / Madam, as a long-term listener of your wonderful station [yeah right] I have chosen YOU to be the station that is to play an important part in my yet to be established glittering radio career by offering me work experience." Or something like that.
Two stations actually did offer me placements, which of course, I accepted, and you will see that I have highlighted the two 'positives'. The rest, are rejections, and chronologically ordered as I received them.
Many of the stations no longer exist or have re branded so anoraks should be in heaven seeing all the old logos and strap lines. :)
If your name appears on the bottom of any of these letters [barring the two yesses] then shame on you :) Actually, as a Programme Manager later in my career I have written many such letters to many hopefuls myself so, I forgive you.

Late 1990's Onwards Job Rejections
Most of these applications were speculative but a few were for jobs advertised, although the last application I ever sent off was in 2006.
Thankfully there were successes - else I'd still be on hospital radio - but here I'm showing you only the rejections I've accumulated over the years, and again in chronological order.
